Should I teach my kids survivalism, I believe there is better than 50/50 chance that a nuclear device will hit

May 17th, 2010

I believe there is better than a 50/50 chance an atomic weapon will be detonated on US soil in the next 30 years. We are very dependent on technology, and would be the country most devasted by a huge disaster (comet, meteor). Should I teach my kids survivalism, or is that too pessimistic?

What Should Be Noted When Fishing Outdoor

April 25th, 2010

Now, more and more people are willing to spare the time from work for enhancing the quality of life and try their best to enrich after-hours, of which there are many friends who like fishing outdoors. In this article, I like to introduce some skills and other knowledge about fishing outdoor, you may find them useful.

Fishing in the countryside, compared with fishing in ponds, not to mention the feelings, only the fishing methods have a great difference. The fish in the wild environment are mostly hybrid; the number and size are usually much different and have a strong sense of security to survive.

Therefore, fishing outdoor is much difficult than in aquarium, at the same time, it demands much higher fishing skills. But all of those, fishing outdoor is more interesting. Let’s sum up the knowledge of fishing outside.

First of all, since the fish in the wild environment are much more flexible, the good agility of tools is needed. By the weight of plummet, adjusting the hook, pendant and float in right place. The float above the surface shall be best. As long as there are fish feeding and touching the hook, no matter how slight it is, float will transmit the information to you accurately.

Secondly, throw the hook precisely. Wild fishing generally plays a nest, in order to attract the fish to come close. The hook on the fishing rod should throw into the nest rightly, and then the more fish are expected to gain.

Thirdly, slightly doing anything.  Loud voices will scare away the fish.

At last, if the fish is not too large, your action of bringing up the fish should slight and fast, to avoid the caught fish escaping in struggling.

Fishing outdoor may be the best choice for every fisher, but while you enjoy the nature and the fishing fun, hidden danger is also co-exist with you! So you should select the fishing place carefully. Trying to select a gentler slope region?Avoiding the dangerous water area?Carry tent, wetproof pad, umbrellas, mosquito repellent coil and so on.

Some fellow bar-prepper stole my seat at the law library. Should I resort to self-help to make him give it up?

January 31st, 2010

Please note that self-help is generally illegal in many states! ;)
What makes it my seat?: I have claimed adverse possession of it from the law library. I have changed its state by rearranging the chairs, have been open and notorious about it being my seat, can exclude the library from it (with the use of signs and/or Supreme Court Reporters used as barricades), have held it continuously (while studying, with no long gaps while studying), and am hostile and adverse about anyone else taking it!

I have also been studying way, way too long, I think. :D
I was wondering how long it would take for someone to take the joke dead-seriously!

How Should you Go About Building an Outdoor Kitchen?

January 8th, 2010

This time of year that this article is being written is winter. That means all we can think about around here is some are and how we can make the best of summer. For some of us, this means coming up with a plan on how to build outdoor kitchen. There is nothing more we like around here at this time of the year at the dreaming about eating outside and enjoying the outdoors without freezing ourselves. If you are like us in our thinking about how to build an outdoor kitchen I want to share some of our experience at what we’ve gone through so far in designing our outdoor kitchen.

First you need to understand that as with any big project no matter how much thought and energy you put into designing it there will always be something that comes up to make it a little more expensive and take a little more time. One of the first things you need to consider is how many months out of the year you want to use your outdoor kitchen. If you live in an area that does have the four seasons you will want to decide how much weatherproofing you want to do. If you live in a very cold area and only want to use your outdoor kitchen for a couple of months out of the year or maybe four or five months, then it will cost you less money to build. You may also want to consider building an outdoor kitchen that can be weatherproofed later on so that you can use it more time out of the year.

My goal is that you will be able to plan for everything and have enough money in your budget to do what you want to do. The first thing you need to think of is where you’re going to put your outdoor kitchen. You want to build the kitchen out of the wind. It is also important that you don’t have any part of your home overhanging the cooking area. For that matter, make sure you don’t have any plans or any decorations hanging above the cooking area. The heat from the cooking area will ruin plants. You don’t want anything hanging over the area because you do not want to have a fire hazard.

Another important thing to consider when deciding where to place your kitchen is how close you want to have it to your house. You want to have a close enough so that you are not running around like a crazy person trying to bring things from the inside to your outdoor kitchen. Of course how much running around you will have to do also depends on what type of appliances you decide to have it your outdoor kitchen. For example if you decide to install a refrigerator that can cut down on a lot of your running back a forth.

Another thing you want to consider is how much you want your outdoor kitchen to resemble your indoor kitchen. I don’t mean the design of it as far as colors etc. what I mean is do you want to have a sink? Do you want to have electricity? All these things are fine to have, but they will add cost to the final project. This is because electrical wire will need to be brought in for electricity and plumbing will need to be run for the sink. If your budget can handle it I suggest you do this because it will make it easier to use or outdoor kitchen and therefore you will enjoy it more.

The last thing I would want you to consider is what type of equipment you want to have in your outdoor kitchen you wanted to be tough because it will have to survive some of the elements. So make sure you don’t go for the cheapest thing because you do want it to last long without having to replace it.

All in all just have fun designing your kitchen stick to your budget and you will enjoy the fruits of your labor and research as you’re sitting outside with a nice juicy steak in your own backyard.

Everyone Should Prepare Outdoor Emergency Kits

November 13th, 2009

Customize the emergency kits along your specific wants. Pack the survival items, which do not fit in the survival tin in bag or pouch that is grabbed easily and quickly and have items that can allow you to live overnight in the wilderness and enhance the chances of being found. I personally use lightweight, durable as well as a waterproof pack with the waist belt and it is large sufficient to carry a first-aid kit. In addition, I keep that always outside my backpack thus I can easily grab it.

Your emergency kits must have a survival bag, cooking pot, food, fuel, and signaling kit and plus some good advice is to include survival notes, create your own or else use one of recommended outdoor survival books.

Cooking pot

Use an aluminum tin, which is light, strong also suitable as the container for other survival stuff.

Fuel

Use a pocket stove with fuel tablets, as pocket stove is compact, ultra light, and accessible. The stove just unfolds to form the adjustable pot stand and holder for burning the fuel. Moreover, these tablets are a great heat resource for cooking, get warm or start fires. Put in some extra waterproof matches too.

Food

Food bars are preferably suited for the emergency kits due to their huge storage temperature variety and small size and weigh. You require all the extra calories that you may get in the survival situation thus pick high-energy food bars.

Survival Bag

Make use of the emergency bag of the reflective material that will keep you warm.

Signaling Kit

Pack the small flashlight, which will take up little room. Make use of long lasting batteries that are reversed inside thus they will not run down if by chance switched on.

The small hand held aerial indication flares is an ideal wilderness signaling device and they provide most of the effective day and night signal to attract the attention since they are very loud as well as cover a large sighting area and these are explosive as a result, pack very carefully. Read all the instructions that are supplied with flares.

Keep with you every time

In addition, keep in mind whatever is in the emergency kits you need to keep that with you at all times. Never venture in the wilderness without the kits.

We provide information for people who believe in being prepared. Emergency kits are necessary for providing people with piece of mind. We also have done extensive research on wilderness first aid kits and other related information. Visit our site today! http://www.survivalsiteinfo.com
