What is a Backpack Bug Out Bag and Do You Need One?

September 3rd, 2010

The most efficient way for anyone to carry important stuff around is with the use of a backpack bug out bag.  Unlike other types of travel bags, the backpack bug out bag leaves the user’s hands and arms free, so it’s easier to move around, climb or carry other things.  This makes it the top bag of choice for adventurists and travelers, thanks to its strong, sturdy design that allows it to withstand heavy loads.

The backpack bug out bag
The backpack bug out bag is a convertible backpack.  It can be expanded and turned into a basic travel bag or it can be zipped up and made compact to turn it into a backpack.  The main compartment of the bug out bag is expandable, allowing for a larger number of gears and supplies to be packed.

The backpack bug out bag is built for strength and is often made of fabric such as canvas.  To avoid tearing, the bag often features reinforced stitching on common stress points.  It is also designed with several inner and outer compartments to provide extra storage for small items and easy access to commonly used equipment.

The backpack bug out bag is a popular choice among military personnel, adventure travelers, sports enthusiasts and those whose jobs require long exposure to the outdoors.

Advantages of the backpack bug out bag
Probably the best reason the backpack bug out bag is a bestseller is its expandability.  Because the bag can be expanded, it offers more room for storage, making packing a breeze.  The bug out bag is an excellent choice for backpackers, travelers and adventurists who like to bring along a lot of stuff and pack them in just one bag.  It’s also an excellent alternative for people who travel for extended periods of time but do not wish to pack more than one bag.

If you are an adventurist, hiker or camper, it is the perfect survival bag to use because it’s roomy enough for a number of gears and equipment but handy enough to make traveling on foot easier.

The backpack bug out bag is also excellent for long distance travels, even if it means keeping the bag hanging from your back for long periods of time.  The bug out bag has been carefully designed to ensure that the weight of the bag is distributed over the user’s center.  This makes walking, climbing and running relatively easier because the weight of the bag will not threaten the user’s sense of balance, regardless of how heavy the load is.

In terms of comfort, the backpack bug out bag is designed with padded straps and body to provide a buffer zone between the user’s back and any hard or sharp contents of the bag.  This also makes transport of heavy or numerous items more efficient.

Why We Need To Connect With Nature

August 14th, 2010

Many years ago, humans and nature coexisted in a harmony that has been missing in present days.  We didn’t live in the technical and sophisticated way we do now.  We needed to connect to nature on a much more personal level because it was integral to our very existence.

Humankind’s very survival depended on listening to and feeling our connection with nature.  We relied on plants for our medicine, used the stars to navigate and tilled the land using animals to plant our crops.  That is just the tip of the iceberg.

In years past almost everything people needed was tied to nature.  These days, while nature is still present in our life, there is a certain disconnect for people. This is especially true for those of us who live in suburban, or urban environments. We have pills for our headaches, GPS units to navigate and we get our “crops” from the supermarket.

Our advances in technology and convenience aren’t necessarily bad things.  We should embrace the advances we have made as a species. There have been some truly impressive feats realized in modern times.  We need to keep things in perspective though and not forget about our past.  Our connection to nature should always be cherished and remembered.

There are many benefits to “getting back to nature”.  Past research has shown that a connection to nature has been shown to decrease stress levels and stimulate healing. Newer research has even drawn the conclusion that it makes people nicer!

A series of studies posted on the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin suggests that immersion in nature brings individuals closer to others, whereas human-made environments make people more interested in selfish or self interested ends.  When you think about it, this makes sense.  When you immerse yourself into nature, you get a feeling of being part of a community, of belonging to something “bigger”.

We know that immersion into nature, can lead to a healthier, fitter, stress free and now friendlier personal lifestyle.  Is that the most important outcome of connecting with nature though?  Is personal growth the end all and be all or is there is actually more to it?

Skeet Sutherland, of Sticks and Stone Wilderness training puts it best when he says “Wilderness Awareness Skills save more than one life but whole communities…Sticks and Stones Wilderness School brings expert skills to the local community in the name of forest preservation and practical ecological initiatives.  We help people feel at home with their habitat by giving them the skills to implement sustainable objectives that produce practical and reliable results that enhance biological diversity and ecological integrity.”

When people learn more about nature, they will be more open to conservation efforts.  If we connect with nature – we will be able to relate to things like loss of habitat, loss of wetlands and tragedies like extinction.

Although we don’t rely on nature like we once did, we still need it.  It is still part of what makes this Earth special.  It can help us heal faster and makes us better people.  The best way we can make sure our natural habitat is protected is by teaching ourselves and our children about nature and the wilderness.  We need to feel the connection with nature that our ancestors once relied upon. That is the key to ecological conservation and preservation.

3 Online Survival Tips All Affiliate Marketers Need

June 29th, 2010

Affiliate marketers are always on the lookout for the magic bullet, the secret formula, the successful market that will propel their income to new levels of prosperity. They seldom realize the truth, there is no such formula. The only real formula for success is hard work and good marketing practices coupled with dedication.

There are, however, tactics that can be used to help build success, but they come with time and effort. Most of them are not overnight successes. I would like to share three great tips that can help you get started on the road to success.

What are these three tactics?

1. Use a unique web page to promote each seperate product. Don’t pile all of the products and service you are marketing into one pageto save money on hosting. If possible, create seperate sites for each product. If not possible try to create a catalog type site and feature each product on a seperate page.

Include product reviews on your website. This will help to inform your site’s visitors on what they are getting and some information on what to expect. You may wish to include tesimonials when possible. Just be sure that you obtain permission before you do so.

Tesimonials can be a great to boost sales and traffic. You may offer those who write the testimonials a link to their site from yours for them. This would encourage said testimonials to be filled with positive comments about your services.

Another great tactic to employ is the use of article writing to attract customers. With this tactic you can write about specific products or services that highlight the uses of those items that you sponsor. When writing these articles you can call your readers to act on the information you provide. Just remember that your article is not to be used as a sales page, but rather to be written in such a way as to get your readers excited about the prospect of using your product or service.

2. Offer free reports to your readers. This is a form of viral marketing. Some swear by this technique and use it constantly in their marketing efforts to measurable success. If possible, position this near the top of the page so that it cannot be missed. Try to set up mesages that will be mailed to the prospects at regular intervals. Usually a sale is made after the seventh message is sent.

Another version of this tecnique is to give the report away, so that the readers can offer it to still others. This form of viral marketing is designed to get your message out to an ever growing audience. The types of reports are written with substance of real value that can help the average reader get something they need (like traffic to their site)and designed so that the readers can repackage it as their own.

When visitors come to your site there are two possibilities that can happen. They will purchase your product or service or leave. Using an autoresponder, you will be sending them mesages at regular intervals to remind them of your service. When creating these followup messages, make sure to point out the benefits of your product or service without sounding like a sales pitch.

Focus on the important points, like how your products will may theirlives easier. Use unique and compelling titles in your messages. Talk TO them not AT them. Avoid the use of the word “free” as some e-mail filtering dump the message at the use of that word.

3.Use “targeted traffic” to reach the audience that will be interested in your product. Untargeted traffic to your site is more of a waste of your time and efforts. An old idea that used to be very prevalent in Internet advertising was to “throw more and more traffic at it till something sticks.” It is an old idea that doesn’t really work.

Using article marketing to drive targeted traffic to your site helps to bring in the kind of visitors who are more willing to purchase your product. Try to write a minimum of two articles a week at 300 – 600 words.

These are but three of the best tactics to use to build your business to the levels of income that you desire. they take time to implement and get results from, but they are tried and true.

2012 – Basic Tools You Need To Survive 2012

June 27th, 2010

We are talking here about killing devices to hunt and to protect yourself. When the electricity and all current technologies are gone, people will need to use some primitive techniques to survive.

KILLING DEVICES
There are several killing devices that you can construct to help you obtain small game to help you survive.
The rabbit stick, the spear, the bow and arrow, and the sling are such devices.

RABBIT STICK
One of the simplest and most effective killing devices is a stout stick as long as your arm, from fingertip to shoulder, called a “rabbit stick.” You can throw it either overhand or sidearm and with considerable force. It is best thrown so that it flies sideways, increasing the chance of hitting the target. It is very effective against small game that stops and freezes as a defense.

SPEAR
You can make a spear to kill small game and to fish. Jab with the spear; do not throw it.

BOW AND ARROW
You can construct a suitable short-term bow fairly easily. When it loses its spring or breaks, you can replace it.

1. Select a hardwood stick about 1 meter (3 feet) long that is free of knots or limbs. Carefully scrape the large end down until it has the same pull as the small end. Careful examination will show the natural curve of the stick. Always scrape from the side that faces you, or the bow will break the first time you pull it. Dead, dry wood is preferable to green wood.
2. To increase the pull, lash a second bow to the first, front to front, forming an “X” when viewed from the side. Attach the tips of the bows with cordage and only use a bowstring on one bow.
3. Select arrows from the straightest dry sticks available. The arrows should be about half as long as the bow. Scrape each shaft smooth all around. You will probably have to straighten the shaft.
You can bend an arrow straight by heating the shaft over hot coals. Do not allow the shaft to scorch or burn. Hold the shaft straight until it cools. You can make arrowheads from bone, glass, metal, or pieces of rock. You can also sharpen and fire-harden the end of the shaft. Fire hardening is actually a misnomer. To fire-harden wood, hold it over hot coals or plunge it deep under the coals in the ashes, being careful not to burn or scorch the wood. The purpose of fire hardening is to harden the wood by drying the moisture out of it.
4. You must notch the ends of the arrows for the bowstring.
Cut or file the notch; do not split it. Fletching (adding feathers to the notched end of an arrow) improves the arrow’s flight characteristics. Fletching is recommended but not necessary on a field-expedient arrow.

SLING
You can make a sling by tying two pieces of cordage, each about 60 centimeters (24 inches) long, at opposite ends of a palmsized piece of leather or cloth. Place a rock in the cloth and wrap one cord around your middle finger and hold in your palm. Hold the other cord between your forefinger and thumb. To throw the rock, spin the sling several times in a circle and release the cord between your thumb and forefinger. Practice to gain proficiency.
The sling is very effective weapon to survive against small game.

In order to survive the real world after the 2012 events, it is clear that we need to make sure we have those tools to protect ourselves and to hunt for food. Surely this is quite an adaptation for the majority of us, yet not a luxury nor an option if we want to stand a chance. Pick your equipment well and learn the skills to use them and make new ones when necessary!

Get The Survival Attitude You Need To Make It Through 2012

June 20th, 2010

FDR once said, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself. In a survival situation this means is that your emotions can be your most dangerous adversary. And if you’re unprepared to deal with them they can rob you of your will to survive and your ability to make it through hard times. This article is all about how you and your family can get the mental toughness you need to stay alive in the aftermath of a 2012 disaster.

To cope in a massive disaster or indeed any traumatic survival situation you need to prepare yourself to experience fear, anxiety, anger, frustration, depression, hopelessness, guilt and grief. It’s very important to understand that having these feelings does not mean you are weak or a coward. You must reassure yourself that these feelings are completely natural and you will probably come up against most or all them in your quest for survival post 2012. What you must do is prepare to experience them so that you know what to expect and so they don’t stand in the way of your ultimate goal – keeping your family alive.

Expect to feel fear.

Fear is a normal and necessary instinct for survival. Remember the Dodo bird? Animals that don’t have fear end up extinct. On the other hand, if you let fear overcome you, you can freeze or panic. And that will be the end of you too. However you can minimize the amount of fear you feel – and the way to do that is by training. You will gain confidence by training in the areas where you feel you have weaknesses – for example if you’re worried that you can’t perform emergency field maintenance on your Bug-Out vehicle, start learning how immediately. And soon that fear will be behind you.

So learn how everything in your survival kits works and get experience using it. The more in command of your resources you are the better off you’ll be when the time comes.

Learn to control Anxiety.

Anxiety is a close relation of fear. Viewed negatively anxiety can gradually overwhelm us to the point where we are frozen, unable to act and deeply depressed. However it is possible to use anxiety to our advantage – public speaking coaches  call anxiety ‘the sweat of success’ because anxiety provides motivation to perform. Learning to control your breathing, positive visualisation techniques and hypnosis are extremely effective ways to master anxiety.

Control your Anger and Frustration.

It’s a sad fact of life, things don’t always go the way you want them to. Sometimes it’s something you can control, other times it isn’t. In a critical survival situation mistakes can see a lot worse and more important that they really are.

You need to learn to control your reaction to anger and frustration, because uncontrolled they can lead to impulsiveness, wasting time on tasks that don’t matter, poor decision making and irrational behaviour, which are all potential killers of you and your family.
Learn to recognise when you and other family members are falling prey to anger or frustration and take immediate measures to calm the situation down.

Intercept depression and hopelessness.

Prolonged anxiety, anger and frustration can all result in depression. When a person is depressed they start to give up hope and lose energy. In the worst case scenario, severe depression leads to losing the will to survive. Dealing with anxiety, anger and frustration before they get too advanced is the best way to beat depression. Once it takes hold it can be very difficult to treat – especially in circumstances where constant high stress continually adds to the problem.

Understand Guilt.

In situations where people close to them have lost their lives the survivors commonly feel guilty for being spared. In a massive disaster scenario this will almost certainly happen to you.
These feelings of guilt can take you two ways. You let your grief overwhelm you until you lose your own will to live, which accomplishes nothing at all. Or you can see the higher purpose in life and resolve to work harder to survive in the name of those who were less fortunate, and make them proud of you.
Guilt is normal and is to be expected. Understand that the situation is of not of your own making, and never lose sight of the fact that your job is to survive and keep your family alive too.

Now here are four general tips to help you get the survival attitude and keep it strong when it counts.

Stay positive – Survival is a state of mind.
Look for the advantage in everything. Staying positive keeps your energy levels up and will help keep the morale of your family up too. If they see you weighed down with negativity, they will be down too. Remember your mind can give up long before your body has to.

Never forget the end goal .

Don’t lose sight of where you are going and why. Having a clear objective will help keep you motivated and positive. It will also help your family in the same way. Tell them where you’re going, how you plan to get there, and what they need to do to help, Remind them that every step takes them closer to safety.

Learn to manage stress
Survival situations are extremely stressful and if you don’t know how to manage stress you can panic, lose focus and make fatal decisions. Having the following skills will make you a much more effective family leader in 2012. Relaxation – especially learning to control your breathing. Time Management – learn to prioritise and allocate your time where it will be the most productive. Cognitive restructuring – acquiring the ability to change how you view a situation, allowing you to see the positive side and where the advantages lie.

Practice, practice, practice. Just like you don’t want to be reading the instructions on your portable gas lantern for the first time when the sky is raining molten lava, you don’t want to leave getting your head right for survival until it’s too late.

Outdoor Rabbit Hutch – 10 Tips You Need to Know When Purchasing a Rabbit Hutch

April 17th, 2010

When purchasing a outdoor rabbit hutch, here are some tips to take into consideration.

1. One thing that will help you make your decision about buying a hutch or a rabbit cage is by surfing the internet. You can get a pretty good idea about what is best for you and your bunny. You will be able to find outdoor rabbit hutch prices and find the one you need.

2. When buying your outdoor rabbit hutch you need to make sure it has a wire mesh floor. This will make it easier for cleaning. You also need to check and see if the hutch has a solid floor, this will give your rabbit a good place to sleep.

3. A outdoor rabbit hutch will provide a lot of room for your pet while making it easier on you to take care of it. Your hutch should be at least 4 times bigger than your bunny rabbit. Also you need to make sure that the rabbit hutch comes withe the basics like a feeder and a water bottle. Also an outdoor rabbit hutch should have plenty of room for your bunny rabbit to hop around.

4. An important part of buying a outdoor rabbit hutch the size of the cage. It is recommended by experts that you purchase the largest hutch you can afford. For smaller breeds of rabbit, bunnies that weigh 8 lbs the cage should be at least 24 inches by 36 inches.

5. Also it is good to find a outdoor rabbit hutch with two levels. You can add a rabbit run to the lower level so your rabbit will have room to run.

6. It is a lot better for your rabbit to live in a hutch than inside your home. There are a lot of different sizes to choose from and your rabbit will love you for it and so will your spouse.

7. One thing that you can do to your outdoor hutch is to put wheels on it so you can move it around easily. Another idea is to buy a rabbit hutch that is high off the ground so you can put storage supplies underneath it.

8. Your hutch should have a tray that is easy to remove for their droppings. Be sure that the hole to your rabbits sleeping area is large enough for your rabbit. You also want to purchase a hutch with a covered top to protect your animal from wind and rain.

9. It is really important to keep your outdoor hutch off the ground so wild predators won’t get to your rabbit. Having it raised gives you access to the hutch without bending over thus making it easier for feeding and cleaning.

10. Security is also very important. Rabbits are prey for predators, whose survival depends on their natural born instincts to run from predators. The fear and anxiety can be so strong that they can die from the stress of the ordeal.

When it comes to the health and happiness of your pet rabbit, choosing a quality living environment is very important. When deciding on a Outdoor Rabbit Hutch, the quality of the dwelling will determine how it will work out for your furry little friend.
