Thinking of traveling to a country where the water supply is not safe to drink. You have two options, buy bottled water, or get your own water treatment / filtering equipment. There are various different ways to provide yourself with constant clean water. So there is no excuse for not being prepared.

Water is essential to our survival and health, and not having a clean water supply could prove fatal in the worst cases. As humans we need a clean source of water at all times. Without this simple requirement our bodies cannot function correctly. The problems associated with clean water are not new. It is estimated that over 2 million children die a year from lack of safe drinking water. There are a large number of countries in the world that do not have a drinkable public water system. Why take the chance, if you are planning on going somewhere with unsafe drinking water. Sure, you can buy bottled water, but everyone has heard the stories of bottled water being filled up with local contaminated water, why take the chance? Amoebic dysentery is an infection of the intestine caused by an amoeba called Entamoeba Histolytica, which among other things, can cause severe diarrhoea and even be fatal in the worst cases. Ameobic dysentery is a parasite that is found in contaminated food and drink, especially water. With a good water filter you would be protected from dysentery in the water you drink. Even if you buy bottled water it is always a good idea to filter it if you don’t trust where you purchased it from.

There are quite a few different brands of water filter available and they come in all shapes and sizes. The question every consumer asks is which water filter offers me the best value? This question is probably best answered depending on what your usage for the water filter will be. Are you planning to go out into the wilderness for extended periods of time? How much will you need to use your water filter, every day, once a week? These are all things you need to think about when buying a water filter. The main factors that will help you decide on what filter is best for you are factors like, weight, durability, lifespan, reputation and reliability. There are a whole range of products on the market which range from the cheaper water bottle style with an inbuilt filter to the industrial never-die portable units with replaceable ceramic filters.

If you are planning to go into areas where clean water is not going to be available, it is essential to buy a top of the range filter, in which case you are probably looking at spending around US$250. The difference between the top end filter and the medium range filter is basically materials and durability. The lower end water filters tend to have plastic mechanisms and levers. Filters made out of plastic are ok, if you are not going to be in life threatening situations if it brakes. For complete peace of mind it is really hard to go past a well built metal water filter that you know is not going to break the first time you accidentally step on it, or the hundredth time for that matter.

If you are planning to go out into the wilderness is might be worth getting yourself a heavy duty filter such as the Katadyn pocket Filter. Visit the site here: http://www.katadyn-pocket-filter.com

2012 Suvival Guide – Don’t Be Left Behind!

August 26th, 2010

December 2012 is upon us! There is now less than 3 years until the prophecised 2012 end of the world. If there is any truth to these prophecies then you must prepare with a 2012 survival guide as soon as you can. The 2012 prophecies are based on various sources, but the end of the Mayan Calendar on December 21′st is the one that most people have heard of. According to the Mayans, the world will undergo drastic change in 2012. Some believe that the earthquakes, tsunamis and strange weather we are experiencing are signs of much worse things to come when Planet X, also called Planet Nibiru, enters the solar system. This planet was first identified in 1906 by astronomer Percival Lowell, who found it as the cause of disturbances in the orbit of Uranus and Neptune. If Planet X is real, then the earthquakes we are having are caused by the gravitational force of Planet X bringing havoc on earth. It will get much worse as the planet comes closer. That is why we should all be ready and get a 2012 survival guide!

Survival Tip #1)

Stock up on basic essentials. That means first getting enough food and water. You will want food with a long shelf life. Fresh produce can only last so long, but canned food like what the army uses can last for Many years. Water will be very difficult to find in an emergency situation. More people die around the globe from lack of clean water than from hunger. Fortunately there are ways around this. You can get water cleansing equipment to kill germs and parasites in army supply stores and outdoor stores. Basic medicine like antibiotics can also mean the difference between life and death if you can’t get to a hospital.

Survival Tip #2)

Be prepared mentally. If the 2012 prophecy does indeed come true, then it’s very important to be ready for it and not panic. That’s where a 2012 survival guide can help. You can trust that most people will be utterly unprepared and will go into panic instantly. It’s always important to keep a cool head. It would be foolish to think your government will be able to help you. They couldn’t even handle Katrina, what makes you think they will be able to a much greater catastophe.

Survival Tip #3)

Don’t go crazy! Sure, the knowledge that you have may seem difficult to cope with, but there is no need to go insane and do stupid things. After all, none of us can predict the future. Nothing is set in stone. Do not think that there will be no accountability after 2012. Just live your life like you did before, but prepare.

Survival Tip #4)

Stay in a safe place at December 21′st, 2012. If you have any plans of going out this day, then you should reschedule. In any emergency, it’s always best to be in a controlled environment and not stuck on a road or in a mall with hundreds or thousands other people in panic. Some places will be safer than others. A 2012 survival guide can tell you exactly where. Unfortunately, there will not be safe places for everyone.

Survival Tip #5)

Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. Yes, it may be unpleasant to prepare for the end of the world, but it’s for the best. If 2012 turns out to be nothing or only a small occurrence, then you have lost nothing. You are still alive and living well, but if the worst happens; if the predictions come true, then you will be very happy indeed that you took steps to prepare. Prepare for every scenario. Prepare for rioting and looting. Prepare for lack of electricity and infrastructure. Get ready.

We can only hope that the 2012 doomsday predictions do not come true. It’s always a good idea to plan and train for an emergency though. As witnessed by Katrina, you can’t count on your government to help you and you can’t count on other people to help you. You MUST prepare. Take action today! Don’t let your guard down and rotate your water stores

July 7th, 2010

Even if the media says we’re coming out of the recession and even if real jobs are created without being faked with government numbers, it’s just a temporary glitch on an otherwise nasty downtrend. Use that glitch to put away money, pay down debt, and aquire the assets that you’ll need when things get bad. The hillbilly housewife ( www.hillbillyhousewife.com ) is a great source for ideas on how to live more frugally. I also highly recommend the survival podcast. One of my subscribers recomended it to me but I can’t remember who it was. Might have been julzbo. Anyway i’m addicted now. The podcast gives great advice on how to move yourself into a prepper lifestyle without panicking or killing yourself with extreme overspending. I keep 30 or 40 episodes in my cell phone and listen to them over my headset during lunch at work and while commuting. His motto is “live a better life if times get tough, or even if they don’t”. www.thesurvivalpodcast.com
