How to Make an Aluminum Can Stove (Soda Can or Beer Can Cooker)

March 16th, 2011

Would you like to make your own aluminum can stove? They are light weight, simple and practical little stoves fueled by denatured alcohol. I enjoyed making this DIY project and hope you do too.

For this project you will need:
3 Aluminum cans (2 if they are tall)
a marker
a box cutter or scissors (something to pierce the aluminum and cut)
screwdriver
scissors (to go back and cut the lines clean)
ruler
cutting board
pliers
angled pick or awl or push pin

You should be able to find denatured alcohol at your local sporting goods store in the marine department.

Figure Four Deadfall Trap Demonstration – Wilderness Training, Outdoor Survival, Bushcraft | IPNA

June 4th, 2010

This is a modified figure four deadfall trap. It was made by Adam Wonski during a Basic + Advanced Bushcraft weekend in September 2009. This particular trap improves on the traditional figure four deadfall trap that has a tendency to be difficult to set up. The improved version is bidrectional, easy to hold with two fingers, and can be set up using only one hand for the trap leaving the other hand to maneuver the deadfall. This trap was taught to the instructors here at IPNA by Jason Knight from Alderleaf Wilderness School. More info at www.ipna.ie

Hennessy Hammock Review and Demonstration envirosponsible

May 31st, 2010

Thinking about buying a Hennessy Hammock? Check out this video review and demonstration for information that may help you make a decision on your purchase. Personally, I love their sleeping system. They’re lightweight, comfortable, easy to set up, and keep the person inside dry. That said, cold-weather camping can be challenging in a hammock. Similar to an icing bridge, wind that blows on the underside of the hammock rapidly cools the occupant’s backside. An air mattress is an easy remedy, and I’ve heard good things about under quilts. I highly recommend the Hennessy Hammock and will use one for my camping trips 3 seasons out of 4. hennessyhammock.com Please leave comments and feedback.
