Would you know what food products to buy to put into your survival food kits? Would you simply go to the grocery store and purchase ordinary canned products? What are the differences between emergency food rations and an MRE, for instance? When would an emergency become survival and how would you have to consider different strategies? Basically, if an emergency situation extends beyond the two-week period, the need for survival takes over. If the emergency services have not managed to right themselves within two weeks, you are in a situation of survival and need to draw on your own resources for as long as it might take to get the infrastructure back up and running. Another thing to consider is where you are when the disaster occurs – in the home, travelling, running away from the area. Each situation is distinct and needs adapting according to circumstances.
Food, water and keeping warm are always going to be the three most important criteria. Keeping warm and staying dry, with adequate food and liquid will keep you alive. You might be bored and fed up, upset or angry – but, you will be alive. What type of food would you need to ensure adequate survival, especially when you consider the needs extend to your family as well as yourself? Any food that contains liquid to preserve it is going to be quite heavy and, if you need to transport sufficient food for a survival situation on foot that is going to be fairly prohibitive.
Cookie bars, or food bars which also prevent you becoming thirsty are one of the prime means available for suitable nutrition, high in protein which is particularly necessary in times of enhanced stress. These food bars contain additional vitamins and minerals to those considered the minimum adult daily requirement and they come in different calorie sizes, from 1200, 2400 to 3600 calories. Food bars have been designed with a minimum five year shelf life and manufactured to withstand temperatures from -40 degrees to 300 degrees, making them quite useful food items to have around. Typically, food rations are provided in packs lasting 72 hours, usually containing 9 food bars at 400 calories each.
These have been approved by the US Coast Guard and, apart from their nutritive content, are easily packed, being small and light enough to include within a simple backpack. They are recommended to be kept in your vehicle in case of emergencies and actually taste quite good. MREs are the military style food packs and are not quite so pleasant to eat, despite the fact that nutritionally, they contain everything needed to maintain adequate nutrition indefinitely.

While universally known financial giants continue to smash on the deck with resounding thumps, the financial world reels in mayhem. Scenes of perplexity and lack of self-confidence not seen since the Great Depression in the early 1930’s, nightly fill our television screens. This is not the point in time to panic and let your emotions to take over control.
So What are the Real Facts?
· The giants of the finance world that have been brought to their knees, through over-borrowing and being unable to pay it back. They might be weeping in their caviar, but when 18 billion becomes just only 3 billion, who is counting, except the filthy rich?
· Many ‘average’ business owners are cringing under their bed covers quivering in fear.
The present circumstances have been likened to economic Darwinism, where it is the survival of the fittest. You can either let yourself drown in doom and gloom, or think survival. You have a choice.
The major key to survival is how you manage your money. Okay, that sounds like the same old stuff, but in this new regime you need to rethink everything. You can survive the financial crisis, but it may be necessary to make a few changes along the way.
· First and foremost, Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 <!– /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {mso-style-parent:”"; margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”; mso-fareast-font-family:”Times New Roman”;} @page Section1 {size:612.0pt 792.0pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt; mso-header-margin:36.0pt; mso-footer-margin:36.0pt; mso-paper-source:0;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} –> /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:”Table Normal”; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:”"; mso-padding-alt:0cm 5.4pt 0cm 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0cm; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:”Times New Roman”;} do not panic. Don’t react to the situation and don’t let your emotions rule you. Work this one from the head, not the heart.
· Secondly, you need to urgently assess the universal situation for yourself, not simply accepting everything the media hype is pushing at you. They will report the stories the way that sells copy. Remember they are the experts in Bad News. Do your own research.
· Globally we have become a consumer society on a grand scale, so take a long hard, unbiased look at your personal circumstances and re-evaluate coldly and calculatingly. Cut down on expenses wherever you can. Streamline where you can for more efficiency and less wastage. Spend money wisely and save it wherever you can.
It is time to break the wants list away from the needs lists. Don’t give up on your dreams, but they are something you have to work into.
Every day you are inundated with a thousand and one different methods to spend your hard earned cash as quickly as possible, particularly if it involves anything to do with credit – where only the banks win! It’s time to realize that credit is a product the same as any other form of goods or services. It is constantly being sold to you.
Yes, in many areas people are losing jobs, but that can happen in any economical state. Be prepared to diversify. So what if you have done the same job for the last hundred years? You have other talents, some you are not even aware of. Adjustment is the real key to your survival. Search for new areas you could break into. Seek out what areas are still forging ahead.
When reporting from the World Knowledge Forum in Seoul, South Korea, marketing professor, Jean-Claude Larréché said “It’s not the creative entrepreneurs but the large companies that are being challenged. Creative companies will survive in any condition”.
“An enormous amount of opportunities”, said Sir Richard Branson, “Will begin to emerge as a result of the current world economic down turn, but companies need to be nimble in order to move quickly and decisively to realize these opportunities”.
This is not the time to creep away in fear, or try burying your head in the sand and expect it to all go away. This is a time to take optimistic action. Find out what your options are, plan carefully and step forward boldly. When things get tough, the tough get going.

In this current economic crisis many people are just trying to survive. That’s a common statement these days. But others don’t see it as a crisis at all. They are those who have decided to thrive.
Whether you “survive” or “thrive” has a lot to do with your mindset. What are willing to accept? What are you willing to reject? Your personal beliefs will determine the actions that you take.
For example, if you truly believe that jobs are scarce and that no one is spending any money then you will do whatever you can to just survive. On the other hand, if you are aware that people are producing goods that people are indeed buying, then you headed in the right path to thrive.
Thrive in this economy? With all that is going on in this economy, how can one talk about thriving?
There are plenty of positive stories of people who are thriving today. But because people want to hear all the negative news, many times most people don’t even hear about these inspiring stories.
Apple allows 3rd party developers to submit applications for their iPhones. If you have an iPhone then you can go to their online store and download one of these “apps” as they are called.
Apple reports that last year they sold 8 million iPhones, not counting the popular iPod touch players. How many “apps” have been downloaded? They say over 100 million downloads so far.
So, it’s no secret why people want to develop apps. Steve Demeter made a game called Trism. It’s not an original game; it’s not a complicated game; but it’s an original iPhone app. The Trism download regularly sells for $5. Steve keeps 70% and the rest goes to Apple. It has been reported that Steve managed to earn around $250,000 in two months.
Now here’s my point. People are spending money. But if your mindset is focused on all the negative news of gloom and doom, then you have already decided that you just want to survive.
Almost everyone knows that new car sales have plunged. That means that more and more people are spending money to keep their current vehicles running. Auto service and repair shop business is growing, as is auto parts stores.
I read a report that amusement parks are thriving. Those who live within reasonable driving distance are taking their vacation at the parks, instead of extended destinations. Because of the value of the dollar, people are traveling from abroad to places like Disneyland.
There are people are spending money.
So, what about you? Are you planning on just surviving, or do you want to thrive? The answer to that question lies in your own thoughts. I haven’t talked to him, but I doubt very seriously if Steve Demeter just accepted all the negative news. While working at Wells Fargo, Steve decided to thrive.
How many people do you run into every single day who moan and complain about our current economic situation? They talk about how horrible it is and who is to blame. Many are looking for someone, for anyone, to fix it and make everything all better again.
That kind of attitude is pretty widespread. It reminds me so much of the book called, Who Moved My Cheese? If you haven’t read it, I would highly recommend that you get a copy and read it. It will help you to change your mindset from “survive” to “thrive.”
God talks about thriving all through the Bible. I have been reading and studying the Scriptures for years and I have never once seen a disclaimer for any of His promises that said something like, “Certain rules and restrictions apply – not available in all states or during an economic down turn.”
I have not seen anything like that at all. Have you? In fact, I have seen just the opposite. There are accounts of people prospering in some of the worst of situations.
Now I am aware that God’s promises do not happen automatically. Some people look at some of the great things in the Bible that God said that He would do and then just say, “Well that is great! Okay, God, do Your thing.” It doesn’t work that way.
Yes, God is more than willing and very able to do all that He said He would do. Yes, He does have a great desire to bring His promises into reality for His people. But it is not automatic. We must do our part.
We must accept what He said as true.
We must believe that He is able and willing.
We must have confidence that He will do it for us, not because we are good enough, but because He loves us.
We must trust that He will indeed bring it to pass.
We must take action, not just wait for something to happen.
Going to God in prayer with an attitude of trust and confidence will bring His promises into your life so that you can thrive! But, if on the other hand you just accept all the negatives, then the best you can hope for is to just survive. Which will you choose? Will you take action on God’s promises? Will you thrive?
