  1. I bought this book because of the boy scouts and my son and to re-freash my outdoor life.I found the book to be very good and full of good thing and after reading other peoples thoughts of this book is wrong because until you try it out or the tricks of how it works and they do for I tried them or most of them on campouts and a few classes I went through its just you trying it more then once on a few of them others no problem at all.The one that work of you keep them in mine and the ones that don’t keep trying them you will find the loop hole as they say.. I would give this book a very good try specally for scouting.

  2. This book could save your life if you ever needed to get a caribou or an antelope from a deaf indian. Or if you need to start a fire and have nothing but matches, a candle, kindling, and wood. Other than that, buy any other book.

This book has a great layout – The windows and boxes with diagrams and short wording are much easier to read than paragraphs (yeah, I’m a magazine reader, not a novel reader). But the information is mostly useless and some is utter nonsense. Some of the others who said it would be a good kid’s toy were right. This author would do well to bring his format to someone who knows what should be in a book like this.

  3. Alright- this book is a classic! For the family or individual who loves to get out & enjoy nature, this is the book for them. Our original purchase was done in the Sequoia’s (of California) for a 10 year old boy who loves outdoors, survival techniques & nature. After reviewing the book ourselves, we decided we had to have one – plus three more for Xmas gifts to famillies! This is one you’ll keep!

  4. This book contains a little bit of everything for the camper & camp site. No, it’s not the see all end all with total detail on every subject, but it is a great overall camping book, touching nearly every subject a camper might be interested in. It is a great book to carry on a family trip, taking the place of multiple books.

I have just purchased my third copy to give as a gift & I highly recommend it, especially for family campers!

  5. I really appreciated this book as a resource. What’s more, we used it in an advanced wilderness survival course at Arizona State University. Yes, there is some information that feels incomplete and a couple of ideas that need to be modified for practicality (ex. digging a still in the desert). However, as a general resource, its excellent, simple, easy to use, and full of information. As with all survival skills, they should be tested and learned in a non-emergency/ non-survival situation before expecting to depend on them.
